ABOUT SKIN BIOPSY
A skin biopsy is the removal of a sample of tissue for diagnostic purposes, usually to test for cancerous cells.
It is often performed on skin whereby a lump has appeared, an unusual mass has formed, or if there are changes in the size, shape or texture of a mole. A sample of tissue is taken and then tested by a pathologist.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED
There are many kinds of biopsies and the technique employed in individual cases will depend on the kind of mass and its location. Nearly all of them involve using a sharp tool to remove a small amount of tissue.
Sometimes a local or regional anesthetic is used to numb the area before removing a small tissue sample.
