Mole removal involves removing a mole by shaving it with a scalpel or excising it and closing the wound with stitches.
A mole is a dark spot or irregularity which can appear anywhere on the skin. The mole may change over time and become raised or larger in size. There are different types of moles, those that are present at birth, and those that form usually in the first 30 years of life. If the mole changes in terms of its shape, color or height, after the age of 30, then it is advisable to have the mole checked by a dermatologist.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED
There are 2 main different types of mole removal. One involves shaving the mole with a scalpel and the other method involves excising the mole and closing with sutures.
In mole shaving, a scalpel is used cut off any raised surface, and the dermatologist may shave deeper to remove more layers of skin. Stitches are not usually required, however, the dermatologist may use cauterization or a solution to stop bleeding before applying a plaster or bandage.
The other method of removal is to cut out the mole using a scalpel. This method is usually used to remove deeper moles, or moles which could be cancerous. This ensures that all tissue is removed, and the doctor will usually remove the tissue surrounding the mole.
