ABOUT BROW LIFT

A brow lift, which is also referred to as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure performed to correct sagging skin on the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eyelids. It can create a younger and rejuvenated look by creating wider eyes and reducing wrinkles.

In some cases, a brow lift may involve incisions at the eyebrow (direct brow lifting) rather than along the hairline. It is performed on patients who want to reduce forehead wrinkles, lift low or drooping eyebrows, or lift low or drooping eyelids.

BEFORE BROW LIFT ABROAD

The patient will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss the desired goals and outcomes. The doctor is likely to advise patients to make some minor lifestyle adjustments ahead of the procedure , such as refraining from consuming alcohol, to stop smoking, and to stop taking certain medications such as aspirin.

For patients with very short hair, it may be advisable to allow the hair to grow out a little before the surgery, so that the hairline scars can be easily covered.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED

Traditional surgery involves making a large incision in hairline, through which excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is tightened into place. Once the skin has been repositioned, the incision is then sutured shut.

Another surgical method which is minimally invasive, is to perform the procedure endoscopically, meaning that the surgeon uses a number of smaller incisions. A scope with a small camera attached to it is passed through the incisions and tools can be attached to reposition the tissue, and the incisions are then closed with sutures.

Anesthesia

A brow lift may be done with local anesthetic or general anesthetic. Some clinics offer both options, with general anesthetic costing a little more.

Procedure duration

The Brow Lift takes 1 to 2 hours.

The surgeon reshapes the nose into the desired shape or size.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER BROW LIFT

Post procedure care

After the procedure, patients may spend one night in hospital. They may have to have surgical drains attached to the site for the first 24 hours. Once the drain has been removed, the incisions will be sutured shut, and an additional bandage applied. It may take a couple of weeks for bruising or swelling to reduce.

Possible discomfort

Some swelling and discomfort for the first two or three days is normal, as is some lesser discomfort for another week following surgery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift is a set of surgical techniques that can reduce wrinkle lines in the forehead and between the eyes. Brow lifts can also raise sagging brows and move the eyebrows to a more youthful position. Brow lifts are frequently combined with other plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures.

The results from a brow lift will be immediately apparent, however no medical procedure can stop the aging process. Your results will continue to change over time as your face naturally ages. In time, you may feel that a “touch up” surgery is necessary.

Brow lifts carry the same risks as any surgical procedure performed under anesthesia, and include excessive bleeding, blood clots, infection, and adverse reaction to anesthesia. Other risks include loss of hair around incisions, facial nerve injury, skin discoloration, unfavorable scarring, and facial asymmetry (which may or may not be correctable with revision surgery). Many of these risks can be reduced by selecting an experienced and reputable surgeon.

Brow lifts are performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. After anesthesia is administered, the surgeon will make the incision. In an endoscopic brow lift, several small incisions along the hairline may be made. Conventional brow lift surgery uses a coronal incision, which stretches from ear to ear along the hairline. After the incision, the surgeon adjusts the muscles under the forehead that cause wrinkles, smoothing out lines and creases in the forehead and along the bridge of the nose. The incisions are then closed and bandaged.
