ABOUT LABIAPLASTY
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed to change the shape of the skin located on each side of the vagina. In some cases the labia majora (the outer lips) of the vulva may also be trimmed, however, the surgery is more commonly performed on the labia minora (the inner lips).
The surgery is most commonly performed as a cosmetic procedure, for esthetic reasons, however it may also be performed if the labia has become damaged during childbirth or if the labia are large and are causing pain or infection.
The surgery is not performed on patients under the age of 18, as the labia may be still developing. The surgery is performed by reshaping the labia and in many cases, reducing the size of the labia. The procedure may be performed under a local or a general anesthetic.

HOW TO FIND QUALITY TREATMENT ABROAD
BEFORE LABIAPLASTY ABROAD
Patients will have a consultation with the surgeon to discuss their expectations and the surgeon will explain the surgery. If the surgery will be performed under a general anesthetic, patients will usually be advised to refrain from eating and drinking in the hours preceding the surgery.
HOW IS IT PERFORMED
A labiaplasty can be performed while the patient is awake or asleep, meaning either a local or general anesthetic will be administered before the surgery begins.
The surgeon will use a scalpel to remove tissue and reshape the labia. Once the desired results have been achieved, the surgeon will then close the incision site with sutures.
Anesthesia
Local anesthetic with sedation.
Procedure duration
The Labiaplasty takes 1 to 2 hours.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER LABIAPLASTY
Post procedure care
After the procedure, it is normal to experience swelling for several weeks. Patients should rest for 2 to 3 days.
The doctor will usually prescribe painkillers, as some medications such as aspirin can result in bleeding and should be avoided.
The surgeon will usually recommend waiting 6 to 8 weeks before sexual intercourse, as it can cause the incision site to open.
Possible discomfort
Swelling and discomfort which can last for several weeks.
